Nutrition for babies and toddlers and Elke’s plate
ELKE’S PLATE… asked a lot about what I feed her so I PROMISE to share more often!
So firstly there’s A LOT more on this plate than what goes in her mouth, but I know how important food play is for babies to learn textures, smell, flavours of food so I don’t really mind that she mucks around with it.
Also there’s a hefty dollop of hummus there 😂 I eat half of that I think at the same time as her with celery or cucumber so she can see my modelling of chewing and interacting with food etc and isn’t eating alone. This is super important for bubs and kids generally learning to experience food.
Lastly, this is a vegetarian plate of food. She draws plenty of quality nutrition from all these foods and there is a lovely balance there. Protein in this plate comes primarily from chickpeas in hummus and the seed bread, but ALL PLANTS contain essential amino acids to build proteins – remember that. This is the buckwheat seed bread that I bake for me but she’s recently poached it every-time I eat it so I’ve started giving it to her – she eats multigrain bread and sourdough on other days too, it’s a mix. You can find the recipe for the bread HERE.
Elke is 1 now for those reading / following and on a solids/food learning journey with their minions too. Hope this helps.
