Healthy school lunchbox snack ideas for parents and carers


As promised to help parents with their small folk back at school. Some purchased and some made because whilst it would be lovely to make it all, I personally don’t have time and reality is most people don’t either so some of each is a good approach.
+ Blueberry oat spelt muffins (recipe on blog) for fibre, sweet treat and energising carbohydrates
+ Toasted seaweed – delicious – source of iodine for healthy thyroid function
+ Homemade Anzacs (recipe on my IGTV) for treaty-ness, wholesome carbs and you know who doesn’t love cookieeeeeees 🍪
+ Rice bites with a touch of salt to balance electrolytes in summer / sweaty playground run about heat
+ Homemade gummy pink grapefruit lemon honey jellies (plenty of jelly recipes on blog)
+ Greek Yoghurt – source of calcium and protein for growing bones / bodies and protein for growth, development, repair, enzyme / hormone production
+ Dried apples for back up on days we are out of fresh fruit (it happens!) and also feels like something fun / different
+ Fava beans – sea salt vinegar – healthier option than chips, source of protein and fibre

 

 

Jacqueline Alwill

Jacqueline is an Accredited Nutritional Medicine Practitioner specialising in family and early childhood nutrition and gut health. She writes for several media publications, hosts a regular nutrition segment on Channel 7 and in 2016 published her first book, "Seasons to Share" (Murdoch Books).
